According to Stefan Bondy of The New York Post, the Knicks continue to show strong interest in pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo, but the reality of Milwaukee’s asking price makes a deal difficult.
The Bucks are believed to want “blue-chip young talent” along with multiple draft picks in exchange for the ten-time All-NBA forward, and New York does not currently possess the level of assets needed to match offers from other franchises that still control their own future first-round selections.
Because of that imbalance, Bondy describes the Knicks as a “long shot” to ultimately acquire him unless Antetokounmpo were to directly push for a move to New York.
Even then, a preference from Giannis would not guarantee anything, since Milwaukee would not be required to honor that request if better offers were available elsewhere.
Bondy adds that New York’s position could improve somewhat in the offseason, when the team is projected to have two first-round picks available to include in trade discussions.
At the moment, the only notable draft asset they control is a top-eight protected 2026 first-round pick from Washington, which is widely expected to convert into two second-round selections instead.
