
Kaunas Zalgiris has issued a financial penalty to Carsen Edwards after the player was stopped while driving under the influence of alcohol, according to a statement released by the club.
Zalgiris said it reviewed the circumstances surrounding the incident before making its decision. The organization explained that the fine was imposed in accordance with its internal team rules.
According to the club, Edwards’ actions did not meet the values and standards expected from professional athletes representing Zalgiris.
The organization stressed that its players are expected to respect the law and demonstrate responsible behavior both on and off the court.
The club also stated that Edwards acknowledged his mistake, expressed sincere regret and accepted responsibility for his actions.
Zalgiris added that the player understands the seriousness of the incident and recognizes that his behavior failed to meet the professional standards expected of him.
Zalgiris said it hopes the incident will serve as an important lesson for Edwards.
The club reiterated that everyone representing the organization is expected to maintain high standards of professionalism, responsibility and conduct.
