After Thursday’s win over the Lakers, Hornets head coach Charles Lee highlighted the importance of LaMelo Ball’s influence beyond the box score, describing the point guard as the team’s “emotional leader,” according to Thuc Nhi Nguyen of The Los Angeles Times.
The coach emphasized that Ball’s impact is increasingly felt in the way he elevates his teammates and sets the tone on the floor.
“We’ve always marveled at his shot-making, but the thing that I think continues to just impress me, the thing that continues to help our team get better and better is that he’s trusting the pass,” he said.
Lee noted that Ball’s willingness to move the ball and involve others has made the Hornets more cohesive and dangerous offensively.
“I think that he’s really maximizing everyone around him. He’s making them better. … And then he just does what Melo does: He’s a shot-maker,” Lee added, pointing out that Ball’s scoring ability remains a constant even as his playmaking and leadership continue to grow.
