The New Orleans Pelicans are continuing to manage the health of Herbert Jones, who recently worked his way back from a right ankle sprain that had sidelined him for seven straight games.
Jones logged a heavy 35-minute workload Tuesday against the Los Angeles Lakers, but was then held out of the second night of a back-to-back on Wednesday in Atlanta, a decision that now appears to have gone beyond simple rest management.
According to the team, Jones is listed as doubtful for Friday’s matchup in Washington, with the same ankle injury still an issue, suggesting the Pelicans remain concerned about lingering effects rather than just short-term fatigue.
Given Jones’ importance as New Orleans’ premier perimeter stopper, the cautious approach reflects the team’s desire to avoid aggravating a problem that has already disrupted his availability.
The Pelicans’ injury report also includes Trey Murphy III, who is dealing with lower back spasms and has been labeled questionable to face the Washington Wizards.
