With Nic Claxton of the Brooklyn Nets unavailable Friday because of a personal matter, the opening in the rotation created a larger role for Day’Ron Sharpe.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Sharpe delivered one of Brooklyn’s stronger performances of the night, finishing with 14 points, nine rebounds, two steals and two blocks while making his first start of the season.

Head coach Jordi Fernandez highlighted Sharpe’s effort level while also acknowledging the physical adjustment that comes with a sudden jump in playing time.

“One thing we know is Day’Ron is going to play extremely hard,” Fernandez said, via Brian Lewis of the New York Post.

He added that increasing from limited minutes to nearly 30 requires careful management, framing the situation as both a valuable chance for Sharpe and something the team must monitor closely.

Sharpe’s showing comes with future implications as well, since the Brooklyn Nets control a $6.25 million team option on his contract for next season, making his ability to step in effectively when called upon especially noteworthy.
