The Miami Heat are expected to prioritize perimeter shooting after adding Giannis Antetokounmpo, with the team exploring several free-agent guards who can improve spacing around their new superstar.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald on Sunday, June 28, Miami is “expected to try to add at least two skilled three-point shooters in free agency,” with Landry Shamet, Anfernee Simons and Quentin Grimes among the options being considered.

The move comes after the Heat acquired Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks in a blockbuster deal that sent Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis and multiple draft assets to Milwaukee. Miami now has one of the league’s most dominant interior players, but the roster lost several offensive contributors who provided perimeter scoring.

Antetokounmpo averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists during the 2025-26 season while shooting 62.4% from the field, making him a natural focal point for the offense. Adding shooters around him is a logical next step for a Heat team that finished 43-39 and entered the postseason through the Play-In Tournament before reshaping its roster.

Simons represents the highest-volume scoring option among Miami’s reported targets. The 27-year-old guard enters unrestricted free agency after his four-year, $100 million contract expired. He averaged 14.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 55 games last season while shooting 38.5% from three-point range on 6.9 attempts per game.

The former Portland Trail Blazers guard has a history of high-level offensive production, averaging 21.1 points in 2022-23 and 22.6 points in 2023-24. His ability to create off the dribble would give Miami another perimeter ball-handler alongside Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.

Grimes brings a different profile as a two-way wing. The 26-year-old became an unrestricted free agent after his one-year, $8.7 million deal expired. He averaged 13.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists with Philadelphia in 2025-26 while shooting 33.4% from three.

Grimes has previously shown stronger shooting numbers, connecting on 38.5% of his threes in 2024-25 and 38.6% in 2022-23. His defensive versatility and ability to play without dominating the ball fit a lineup built around Antetokounmpo and Adebayo.

Shamet would likely be the purest shooting addition. The veteran guard averaged 9.3 points in 23 minutes per game for the Knicks last season and made 39.2% of his three-point attempts. Across his eight-year career, Shamet has shot 38.6% from deep while providing movement shooting and quick-release spacing.

Miami already had strong shooting seasons from several players in 2025-26, including Andrew Wiggins at 41.4% from three and Norman Powell at 38.0%, but losing Herro and other young contributors changes the offensive structure.
