As Haywood Highsmith continues rehabbing from right knee surgery, he has remained fully engaged with the Brooklyn Nets, contributing in ways that go beyond game action.

Even while sidelined, he’s taken on a mentorship role, especially with rookie Drake Powell, offering guidance and support during practices and team activities.

His presence has stood out because of how naturally he leads without being asked. That approach has made a strong impression on the coaching staff and teammates alike.

As Brooklyn Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez explained, “Just a true vet. You see him right now, he’s passing the ball to Drake and we’re not asking him to do it. So that shows you the type of veteran he is, his leadership. He holds him accountable and he wants him to get better.

“So that’s very important for us. That leadership is priceless and we’re very happy with him … He’s doing his job every single day.”
