The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly open to trading All-Star point guard Trae Young, sources told Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.

Discussions have included the Dallas Mavericks in talks to send Anthony Davis to Atlanta, but Dallas has no interest in acquiring Young and plans to keep Kyrie Irving as their starting point guard.

Young, 27, is in the fourth year of a four-year, $215 million deal with a player option for the 2026-27 season. He has appeared in 10 games this season, averaging 19.3 points and 8.9 assists per game.

The Hawks are currently 10th in the Eastern Conference at 15-19, relying on Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Jalen Johnson, and Onyeka Okongwu for scoring and rebounding. Johnson leads the team with 23.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, while Alexander-Walker averages 20.6 points.

Dallas, 12th in the Western Conference at 12-21, is exploring a trade to move Davis, 32, who is averaging 20.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists over 16 games. Trading Davis could create cap flexibility for the Mavericks and allow Irving to lead alongside younger contributors like Cooper Flagg and P.J. Washington.

Financial considerations make a Young trade complicated as moving the Hawks’ star point guard could push Atlanta far over the NBA’s second luxury tax apron in 2026-27. As a result, Young is expected to pick up his $48.9 million player option for next season due to limited trade alternatives.

Atlanta’s roster includes depth with Dyson Daniels, Vit Krejci, and Mouhamed Gueye, which could accommodate Davis’ contract if the Hawks pursue a trade. However, excluding Young from potential deals limits flexibility for Atlanta to make a major roster shakeup.
