Despite persistent trade rumors, the Milwaukee Bucks are making it clear to the league that Giannis Antetokounmpo remains untouchable, NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Sunday.
The franchise is actively telling teams that inquire about the two-time MVP that their focus is on adding talent around him, not moving him.
The Greek Freak, who recently turned 31 in his 13th NBA season, leads the Bucks with 28.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game, even while sidelined with a right calf strain expected to last about four weeks. Milwaukee’s current 11-18 record has seen Kevin Porter Jr. and Ryan Rollins carry much of the load in his absence.
Stein noted that while other teams routinely expect the situation to change in January, Milwaukee maintains that no trade discussions involving Antetokounmpo are active. The Bucks are countering the noise to reassure both the public and Giannis that they intend to compete for championships in Brewtown.
League insiders, including Chris Haynes, have highlighted several teams tracking Giannis’ status, such as the Knicks, Heat, Warriors, Spurs, and Timberwolves. While speculation surrounds potential destinations, sources suggest the player’s preference would likely include a sunny, big-market location, with championship contention remaining a priority.
The Bucks reinforced their commitment this offseason by acquiring Myles Turner and waiving Damian Lillard to create roster flexibility, signaling a continued build around Antetokounmpo. Michael Scotto reported that Giannis “loves Milwaukee” and has not expressed a desire to leave, further emphasizing the team’s intention to retain him.
Even with external chatter, rival executives told league sources that Milwaukee is not considering a move at this time, with any potential trade likely tied to future offseason contract talks. Miami remains the most frequently mentioned hypothetical suitor due to its asset flexibility, though the Bucks have shown no interest in entertaining offers involving Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., or Kel’el Ware.
Internally, Giannis has urged teammates to stay focused amid the trade speculation, keeping the locker room insulated from distractions. With a player option for the 2027-28 season, his leverage remains a factor for long-term planning, but the immediate priority is stabilizing the roster and adding complementary pieces.
For now, Milwaukee’s message is consistent: Antetokounmpo is the centerpiece, and the franchise intends to build around him, making any trade rumors purely theoretical until at least the offseason.
