Speculation around Giannis Antetokounmpo’s long-term future continues to circulate, even as the Milwaukee Bucks maintain that their franchise cornerstone is not available for trade this season.
NBA insider Chris Haynes outlined how teams around the league view the two-time MVP, naming several organizations that have monitored his situation closely. “I think the Knicks have interest in Giannis—strong interest,” Haynes said, via HoopsHype, while also listing the Heat, Warriors, Spurs, and Timberwolves as teams that have tracked his availability.
Haynes added context to what could shape Antetokounmpo’s preferences if a move were ever to materialize. “Wherever he lands, I think he’d prefer some sun, probably a big market,” Haynes said, before emphasizing that championship contention remains the priority.
Despite that speculation, Milwaukee’s stance remains firm. Michael Scotto reported on YES Network that the Bucks are not planning to trade Antetokounmpo and continue to build around him, noting that Giannis “loves Milwaukee” and has not indicated a desire to leave.
The front office reinforced that commitment during the offseason by acquiring Myles Turner and stretching Damian Lillard’s contract to create additional flexibility. Those moves signaled a renewed effort to stabilize the roster around Antetokounmpo, who is currently sidelined with a right calf strain expected to keep him out for roughly four weeks.
Even while injured, Giannis remains the Bucks’ focal point, leading the team with 28.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game. Milwaukee sits at 11-16, relying heavily on Kevin Porter Jr. and Ryan Rollins to stay competitive in his absence.
Rival executives have explored hypothetical trade scenarios, but Scotto noted that they “don’t get the sense that he’s looking to pull the trigger right now.” Any real movement, according to league sources, would likely hinge on offseason discussions surrounding a possible contract extension.
Miami continues to be mentioned as a logical suitor due to its asset flexibility and track record of chasing elite talent. League insiders have pointed to packages that could include Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, and draft compensation, though Milwaukee has shown no appetite for such talks.
Giannis has also addressed the speculation internally, urging teammates to focus on basketball and avoid distractions tied to trade rumors. With a player option for the 2027-28 season, his leverage adds another layer of complexity to any future decisions.
For now, the Bucks’ message remains consistent. Antetokounmpo is the centerpiece, and unless that changes in the offseason, any discussion about preferred destinations remains purely theoretical.
