Cam Whitmore has been a healthy scratch for the past three games, a decision that has drawn attention as the Washington Wizards continue to shuffle their rotation.
Head coach Brian Keefe initially explained the move as a response to Whitmore not meeting team standards, but he later clarified that the situation was more about exploring different lineup options and giving other players opportunities.
After Washington’s 130-126 loss to the Cavaliers, the head coach reiterated that Whitmore’s absence isn’t permanent.
“[Cam is] gonna be back in here in the mix at some point, it always works out this way,” Keefe said, according to Varun Shankar.
He emphasized that recent rotation changes are more about evaluation than punishment.
“We’re seeing different guys – Will Riley, Jamir [Watkins] – those guys stepped up and have been playing well,” Keefe added. “Just looking at those combinations, nothing more than that.”
