Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo and his agent, Alex Saratsis, are in discussions with the franchise over whether his long-term future lies in Milwaukee or elsewhere, ESPN insider Shams Charania reported. The talks could lead to a trade request ahead of the February 5 trade deadline.

The Bucks are facing growing uncertainty as rival front offices project Milwaukee may pursue a full-scale rebuild, potentially moving veterans such as Bobby Portis, Kyle Kuzma, and Myles Turner, according to Jake Fischer. A decision on Antetokounmpo’s future could trigger a major roster overhaul.

Giannis, who has averaged 30.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 6.4 assists across 16 games this season, has grown frustrated with the team’s recent struggles. Tension inside the locker room has reportedly increased, raising questions about how the Bucks will manage the next stretch of the season without their two-time MVP.

The forward was sidelined for 2 to 4 weeks following a right calf strain sustained three minutes into Milwaukee’s 113-109 win over the Detroit Pistons on December 4. Despite his early exit, the Bucks secured the victory behind Kevin Porter Jr.’s 26 points, Ryan Rollins’ 22 points, and Jericho Sims’ career-high 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Milwaukee has gone 1–5 in Giannis’ absence this season, highlighting his impact on both ends of the floor. Porter Jr., Rollins, AJ Green, and Sims have stepped up, demonstrating the team’s depth, but the Bucks remain vulnerable without their star.

Antetokounmpo has previously indicated the New York Knicks as a preferred landing spot, with the two teams exploring a potential trade in August that ultimately stalled due to New York lacking first-round picks. Should he become available, multiple teams are expected to enter the pursuit, with Milwaukee aiming for significant return assets.

The 2025-26 Bucks currently hold a 10-13 record and will need strong performances from role players if Giannis’ future in Milwaukee is uncertain. Kevin Porter Jr. leads the team in scoring with 19.8 points per game, while Myles Turner and Bobby Portis contribute 12.4 and 11.1 points per contest, respectively.

With the February trade deadline approaching and Giannis’ eligibility for a four-year, $275 million extension in 2026, Milwaukee faces a pivotal period that could reshape the franchise’s long-term direction. The team’s strategy in the coming weeks will determine whether the Bucks attempt to retool around Giannis or embark on a full-scale teardown.
