The Orlando Magic are reportedly taking a patient approach before making any major roster decisions involving a potential pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
According to Kurt Helin, the organization plans to give newly hired head coach Sean Sweeney an opportunity to fully evaluate the current core, particularly the partnership between Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, before determining whether a blockbuster move is necessary.
“Orlando is interesting, a team on the rise in the East, but with questions about whether they have a true No. 1 shot creator and bucket getter who can get them a ring.”
While the Magic have steadily emerged as one of the Eastern Conference’s most promising young teams, there remains uncertainty about whether their existing roster possesses the elite offensive talent needed to lead a championship run.
The franchise appears committed to first exploring the ceiling of its current stars under Sweeney’s guidance rather than rushing into a dramatic overhaul.
“The Magic are expected to let new coach Sean Sweeney try to figure out the Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner puzzle rather than blow it up for Antetokounmpo or anyone else, league sources told NBC Sports. However, if they decide to get in the mix, they can put together an impressive offer.”
The report suggests Orlando wants to see whether Banchero and Wagner can become the championship-caliber duo it believes they can be.
At the same time, the Magic have the assets to make a strong push for Antetokounmpo if they decide a superstar addition is necessary.
For now, however, the focus remains on internal development and giving Sweeney an opportunity to maximize the current roster.
