Sacramento Kings head coach Doug Christie lauded his team’s collective effort after a 128-123 comeback win over the Denver Nuggets on Saturday, ending an eight-game losing streak. “Wins are hard to come by, so definitely needed it,” Christie said, highlighting the emotional significance of the victory.
Christie emphasized that the game showcased the Kings’ process in full. “I commend this was a complete team win, guys sacrificing across the board with minutes and subs and all types of different things and supporting each other in a big-time way,” he explained.
On the offensive execution, Christie noted the team’s ability to attack the paint and move the ball efficiently. “One of our principles is you want to get to the paint… once that’s done, explore. If you have it, great. If you don’t, kick it back out,” he said, praising the Kings for limiting turnovers to six while recording 32 assists.
The coach also discussed Keegan Murray’s impact since returning from offseason thumb surgery. “Keegan is a big part of what we do, our foundation moving forward. He started guarding Murray right off the bat… he shoots the ball at a high clip, rebounds, everything that we are about as Sacramento Kings basketball, Keegan is a shining example of that.”
Christie highlighted Russell Westbrook’s fourth-quarter performance against his former team as pivotal. “Just watching Russ over all the years, the passion and aggression that he plays with is special… he found a game and helped us quite handily,” Christie said, noting Westbrook’s ability to collapse defenses and create opportunities for teammates.
Dennis Schroder also drew praise for his contributions, combining with Westbrook for 42 points and 18 assists. Christie described it as a demonstration of Sacramento’s team-first mentality: “Russ made a shot, made a play… Dennis even coming in at the last play to get it in, like what a teammate, man.”
DeMar DeRozan’s late-game execution was another highlight for Christie. “Basketball is about joy… seeing him play like that, it doesn’t get any better than that,” he said, emphasizing the importance of enjoying the game while performing at a high level.
Sacramento will host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday, while Denver travels to Memphis for a matchup with the Grizzlies. Christie’s reflections underline a renewed confidence in the Kings’ collective identity and execution moving forward.
