Nikola Jokic reflected on the Denver Nuggets’ 128-123 home loss to the Sacramento Kings on Saturday, stressing the need for improvement despite the team’s 12-4 record.

“I think we need to be much better if you want to do something,” Jokic said, emphasizing the importance of consistent execution on every possession.

The three-time MVP cited slow rotations and defensive lapses as key factors in the defeat. “They were attacking. The help… was not there. We were always kind of one step slower than them,” he noted, acknowledging Sacramento’s ability to exploit Denver’s paint.

The Nuggets’ star center addressed his own effort in the fourth quarter, when he scored 19 of his 44 points. “It’s a dog fight. You’re just trying to do whatever you want to win the game,” Jokic said.

Jokic also discussed Denver’s depth challenges, noting the absence of Aaron Gordon and Christian Braun. “It’s different. They’re both really good defensive players… we miss CB in all the split actions… AG is a really good low post player,” he explained.

The Nuggets’ chemistry with newer players was another focus. Jokic praised Cameron Johnson’s development and understanding of the pick-and-roll. “I think it’s good. We need more reps… he figures out how to pass the ball. Pocket is pocket is the pop for the three,” Jokic said.

Despite the setback, Jokic insisted the team’s record does not reflect their true level. “12 and 4 is just… not the real picture. We are not that good. We need to do on consistently every night, every possession,” he said.

Denver will visit the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday, seeking to rebound quickly from the loss.
