Jalen Duren scored a career-high 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Detroit Pistons pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat the Dallas Mavericks 122-110 on Saturday night in Mexico City.
Cade Cunningham added 21 points and a career-high 18 assists, while Duncan Robinson scored 18 and Ausar Thompson contributed 15 for the Pistons, who earned their second straight win.
Dallas led 93-87 after three quarters, but Detroit dominated the final period 35-17, with D’Angelo Russell scoring 31 points off the bench. Rookie Cooper Flagg added a season-high 16 points on 3-of-14 shooting for the Mavericks.
The Pistons capitalized on Dallas’ absence of forward Anthony Davis, sidelined with a left-leg injury, and took advantage of superior play in the paint throughout the fourth quarter.
Detroit shot 49.5% from the field, including 23-of-34 from the free-throw line, while outrebounding the Mavericks 47-43. Cunningham’s playmaking set the tone, repeatedly finding teammates for open shots.
This marked the 15th regular-season NBA game in Mexico City, with Dallas playing in the city more than any other franchise at four games. Detroit improved to 4-2, while Dallas fell to 2-4 on the season.
The Pistons travel to Memphis on Monday, while the Mavericks visit Houston later the same night.
