Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. expressed confidence that head coach Steve Kerr will remain with the franchise beyond this season, despite Kerr entering the final year of his contract.

Speaking on NBC Sports Bay Area’s “Warriors Pregame Live” before Tuesday’s win over the Los Angeles Clippers, Dunleavy said he believes an agreement will eventually be reached. “I’m confident that he’ll be back and we’ll get something done,” Dunleavy said, emphasizing that Kerr’s situation is “not like a normal” coaching contract negotiation.

The 60-year-old coach, who has led Golden State since 2014, is taking a deliberate approach to his future. Kerr has said he is focused on the ongoing 2025–26 season and maintaining his connection with the players before discussing a potential extension.

Kerr has guided the Warriors to four NBA championships, eight Western Conference Finals appearances, and a 4–1 start to the current season. The team’s strong chemistry, led by Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler, has reinforced the stability that has defined Kerr’s tenure.

“Steve can stay as long as he wants,” Dunleavy added. “He’s got great self-awareness. He knows where he’s at.” The GM also noted that team owner Joe Lacob shares the same view — ensuring that any new agreement reflects Kerr’s desire to continue coaching.

Earlier this month, Kerr told The Hoop Collective podcast that he feels “very comfortable” with the organization and has no plans to pursue other NBA opportunities. He cited his collaboration with Dunleavy and the mutual respect with his players as central to his commitment.

“I know they respect me. We have a great collaboration. Love working with Mike, love working with this whole organization,” Kerr said. His comments underscored a focus on maintaining balance and timing rather than rushing into a new deal.

The Warriors’ early-season success has come behind standout performances from Curry, who scored 42 points in an overtime win against Denver, and consistent defensive leadership from Green. Kerr’s influence remains evident in the team’s disciplined execution and continuity across lineups.
