Julius Randle signed a three-year, $100 million extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves on June 29, committing to the team through the 2027–28 season.
“Everything as a whole from the working environment, Finchy as a coach, Tim [Connelly], Dell [Demps], Matt Lloyd, all of those guys have been really good to me,” Randle told Mark Medina of EssentiallySports, adding that his family is happy in Minnesota.
Randle described this offseason as his happiest, taking time to refresh and spend a month with family. “I was feeling refreshed and motivated, basketball-wise…Knowing that I’m coming to a spot where I’m appreciated and somewhere I’m able to enjoy coming to work every single day, that was important for me,” he explained.
The forward focused on fundamentals during his training, emphasizing efficiency and simplicity. “From a basketball standpoint, I felt like I had a pretty good beat on what the team needed from me…whether it was catch-and-shoot 3s or sharpening up my ballhandling and my postups,” Randle said.
Randle highlighted his versatility as a key to staying effective on the court. “I can affect the game in many different ways…Some nights I might score more than others. But I can affect the game in so many ways, whether it’s rebounding, pushing the ball and getting us into our early offense, passing.”
Coach Finch has relied on Randle for both scoring and playmaking. “There were times in the playoffs last season where they were like, ‘We want to take away his playmaking.’ So then they played me one-on-one. I feel like if you play me one-on-one, it’s going to be trouble,” he said.
Reflecting on the previous playoffs, Randle focused on preparation and improvement. “There are always things to get better at…we’ll be a lot more prepared. It was basically our first year, at least my first year with the guys. So it’s about understanding the different situations and what the game calls for.”

Randle praised his bond with Finch as central to his decision to remain in Minnesota. “Finch ultimately trusts in me as a player…through adversity, how he showed up for me as well. That was important for me, knowing that he had my back. He was a big reason for me coming to Minnesota.”
On his All-Star prospects, Randle remained focused on team success. “I definitely think it’s possible. I think, for me, it’s about helping our team win at a high level…Ultimately, man, I’m trying to win a championship.”
He also praised Anthony Edwards’ growth and described their competitive offseason workouts. “I just tried not to miss shots…We both are super competitive dudes. So we try to bring the best out of each other and be great with every single thing that we do,” Randle said.
Looking ahead, Randle emphasized team chemistry as a foundation for success in the Western Conference. “It’s our confidence in each other…We believe that we have enough to win. That’s all that we really need,” he said, highlighting the Timberwolves’ strong preparation and cohesion.
