The Cleveland Cavaliers have released Killian Hayes, according to a report from HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.

Scotto mentions that Hayes, who was signed to an Exhibit 10 contract with Cleveland, is expected to transition to the organization’s G League affiliate.

Hayes, drafted seventh overall by the Detroit Pistons in 2020, spent four seasons in Detroit before finishing part of last season with the Brooklyn Nets.

With the Nets, he appeared in six NBA games and averaged 9.0 points and 5.2 assists while shooting 38.1% from three-point range.

In addition to his NBA appearances, he also took part in 18 games with the Long Island Nets in the G League, where he produced strong numbers: 20.7 points, 7.6 assists, 2.4 steals, and 5.5 rebounds per game while hitting 41.7% of his shots from beyond the arc.

Standing at 6’5″, Hayes has gained recognition for his defensive ability as a point guard. However, he has faced ongoing challenges with offensive consistency throughout his NBA career, reflected in his overall 28.1% three-point percentage.

Scotto adds that Hayes remains hopeful about securing another NBA opportunity.
