There’s still some uncertainty surrounding whether Paul Pierce actually had alcohol in his bloodstream at the time of his arrest last week.
According to what TMZ Sports uncovered, law enforcement officers are still waiting on the finalized blood analysis before confirming anything.
The former NBA star was detained by the California Highway Patrol on October 7. Authorities reported that they discovered him asleep behind the wheel of his Range Rover while it was stopped on Highway 101 in Los Angeles.
Officers at the scene stated that Pierce showed behavior that, in their view, suggested possible alcohol impairment, which led to him being taken into custody on a DUI suspicion.
As of Monday, a representative for the CHP said that they still haven’t received the toxicology information that would show Paul Pierce’s blood alcohol concentration at the time of the incident.
The spokesperson mentioned that “a local crime lab” is currently handling the processing of the blood sample, but no expected timeframe has been provided for when those results will come back.
Pierce, however, gave his own explanation and appeared to reject the idea that he was intoxicated during the encounter.
He posted a message on Threads on October 9, saying the situation happened simply because he was worn out and stuck in traffic.
In his words, the situation was due to him being “old” and “tired.”
“Imagine being stuck in stand still traffic for 45 mins and falling asleep 🤦🏾♂️,” he said. “I took this picture that night because I never been in stand still traffic for this long.”
“I’m old, I’m tired, and I fell asleep 🤷🏾♂️,” he went on to say. “I’m good y’all thanks for the love.”
