The Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly interested in signing free-agent guard Malik Beasley, according to Shams Charania on NBA Today, per RealGM. Beasley remains unsigned as he navigates an ongoing NBA investigation into gambling allegations.
Cleveland enters the 2025–26 season without key guards Darius Garland and Max Strus, increasing the urgency to add perimeter depth. Beasley’s three-point shooting and veteran experience make him a potential fit to strengthen the rotation.
The 28-year-old guard was recently informed he is no longer a target in the federal gambling investigation, clearing a major hurdle for teams considering him. This development removes a cloud that had stalled Detroit’s plans to extend him earlier this summer.
Beasley averaged 16.3 points per game while shooting 41.6 percent from three in a full 82-game season with the Pistons in 2024–25. He added 14 points per game in Detroit’s six-game playoff series against New York, contributing to the franchise’s first postseason berth since 2019.
Despite his strong performance, financial constraints made a return to Detroit complicated. The Pistons hold only Beasley’s non-Bird rights, limiting their maximum offer to $7.2 million, while the front office has already signed Caris LeVert, Duncan Robinson, and Javonte Green.
Cleveland’s pursuit aligns with their need for additional shooting around Donovan Mitchell and Garland, offering a low-risk option to stabilize the backcourt. Beasley’s ability to contribute immediately in games and practices makes him an appealing target while the team navigates injuries.
Beasley has played nine NBA seasons with Denver, Minnesota, Utah, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, and Detroit.
