The New Orleans Pelicans waived guards D.J. Carton and Trhae Mitchell on Wednesday, per NBA transaction log. The moves reduce roster competition as the team finalizes its lineup for the 2025–26 NBA season.

Carton, 25, appeared in eight NBA games with Toronto over the past two seasons, averaging 1.8 points and 0.8 assists per contest.

He spent most of his recent season in the G League with the San Diego Clippers, posting 13.1 points, 4.9 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game across 19 outings.

Mitchell, 28, played primarily in the G League, most recently with the Birmingham Squadron. During the 2024–25 season, he averaged 7.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 26.3 minutes per game over 34 contests.

The Pelicans enter the 2025–26 season with a deep backcourt led by guards Jordan Poole, Jose Alvarado, and Jaden Springer, while Trey Alexander remains on a two-way contract. Injuries to Dejounte Murray, Zion Williamson, and Derik Queen also affect rotations and playing time.
