Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga expressed relief and contentment after signing his new two-year, $48.5 million contract, which includes a team option for the final year. The deal requires Kuminga to waive his right to block trades this season, giving the Warriors control over his immediate future.

Marc Spears of ESPN’s NBA Today observed Kuminga’s happiness following the agreement. “Happiness, joy, peace, which is surprising. I’ve been around a while… But I saw Kuminga dancing after the game, he told me he was at peace,” Spears said, via ClutchPoints. He credited Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler, and Buddy Hield for supporting Kuminga through the process.

The 22-year-old acknowledged the business side of basketball and stressed team goals over personal gain. “It’s part of what we do. It’s a business. At the end of the day, it all matters, we got it done, and I’m excited to be here,” he said.

Kuminga highlighted the learning aspect of restricted free agency. “I just learned more about me, hearing from different people. It was a good experience,” he explained, emphasizing personal growth during the negotiations.

The forward also spoke on his readiness to contribute in multiple ways. “Find a way to impact—if it’s defense, guarding our best player, or scoring. That’s what I’m looking forward to,” Kuminga said. His versatility is expected to be a key factor under coach Steve Kerr’s system.

Early-season chemistry with Jimmy Butler is another area of focus for Kuminga. “It’s very easy and simple to play with Jimmy. Having him here from day one will help us figure things out in training camp,” he noted, underlining the importance of seamless collaboration on both ends of the floor.

Despite the contract, NBA insider Jake Fischer reports that the Warriors may explore trade options for Kuminga starting January 15, with interest from teams such as Chicago, Sacramento, and Phoenix. The player’s trade value could be a central storyline leading up to the February 5 deadline.
