Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr praised Kevon Looney for his leadership and impact both on and off the court. Kerr highlighted Looney’s contributions in screening, offensive rebounding, and consistent day-to-day performance.
“You guys know my love for Loon — on and off the court. We’re gonna miss his screening. We’re gonna miss his offensive rebounding. We’re gonna miss just how solid he is every day,” Kerr said in a recent interview on 95.7 The Game, via HoopsHype.
Kerr also credited Looney for his locker room presence, quoting assistant coach Ron Adams who called Looney “the best leader I’ve ever seen in my life.” Kerr agreed, emphasizing the void Looney leaves behind.
Looney, who signed a two-year, $16 million deal with the New Orleans Pelicans on July 7, reunites with former teammate Jordan Poole. He expressed that his playing time during the 2025 playoffs limited his ability to contribute fully to the Warriors’ system.
Throughout his decade-long career in Golden State, Looney became a reliable force in the frontcourt. He averaged 5.0 points and 5.7 rebounds across 599 career regular-season games while earning a reputation as a defensive anchor and team-first player.
Looney’s playoff performances further underscored his value, with career averages of 5.3 points and 6.3 rebounds over 89 postseason games. He consistently provided stability in high-pressure situations, helping the Warriors remain competitive in championship runs.
While Al Horford is expected to provide leadership in the locker room moving forward, Kerr acknowledged that Looney’s quiet guidance and mentoring will be difficult to replace. “We’re gonna really miss Loon,” he said.
