Jonathan Kuminga has reached an agreement to return to the Golden State Warriors, signing a two-year contract worth $48.5 million. The deal brings an end to his lengthy restricted free agency process.
Kuminga is represented by agent Aaron Turner, and the agreement came after the Warriors decided to sweeten their initial offer, boosting it by $8 million over two years.
By accepting this contract, Kuminga will earn about $15 million more than he would have made by simply taking the Warriors’ qualifying offer.
While there was also the option of a three-year, $75 million contract, Kuminga and his representatives opted for the shorter deal, which provides him with greater flexibility and the chance to renegotiate or test the market again in the near future.
Golden State also secured a degree of control with this agreement, holding a team option on the second year of the deal.
That option is expected to serve as a placeholder, with the expectation that both sides will revisit contract negotiations in the summer of 2026.
In the meantime, Kuminga’s new contract also sets up a potential trade window: beginning in January, once he becomes eligible, the Warriors will have the opportunity to explore trade scenarios involving the 22-year-old forward.
During the offseason, both the Sacramento Kings and the Phoenix Suns showed serious interest in trying to acquire Kuminga through a sign-and-trade arrangement.
However, neither franchise had the cap flexibility or trade mechanisms necessary to complete a deal with Golden State.
Kuminga remains with the Warriors following a breakout season in which he averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists.
His growth last year was a bright spot for Golden State, and this new contract signals that both sides see value in keeping the partnership intact – at least in the short term.
