In a decade, it has been a lot for the Philadelphia 76ers, resulting in many injuries that have held them back from reaching the postseason or even making the NBA finals.
Sixers superstar Joel Embiid earned the MVP in the 2022-2023 season, where the team became a top seed, slightly dominating the Eastern Conference with 54 wins, but was often eliminated during the semifinals in the playoffs.
The Philadelphia made the playoffs in seven straight seasons, 2017-2024, and made the semifinals many times. Unfortunately, the struggle continues in the recent season as they face the triumph of injuries involving veterans and rookies.
It was hard to be known as “The Process” if injuries held the franchise down, especially when rehabbing superstars expected to contribute.
Here is the list of injuries that the franchise has faced so far over the years:
Joel Embiid
2014-2015, Joel Embiid missed the entire season due to a stress fracture in the right navicular bone and foot surgery. He was also out in 2015-2016 as he faced another delayed process and recurrence.
In 2018, Embiid encountered an orbital fracture and concussion as a result of his collision. The left-hand ligament was injured in January 2020, requiring him to undergo surgery.
Last season, the former MVP started to feel his knees again, where he had his surgeries, including arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. He only played 19 games and was ruled out for the rest of the season due to left knee issues.
Paul George
In his first year as a Sixer, George was hampered by many issues, such as a knee bone bruise, left adductor muscle problems, and a torn pinky tendon. He also hyperextended his left knee in the preseason and again in November 2024.
The Sixers forward underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in July 2025 to address the damage.
Tyrese Maxey
Last year, Maxey was ruled out for the rest of the season due to a finger tendon injury and also dealt with right hamstring soreness in November 2024.
Jared McCain
When McCain was already earning his momentum as a rookie, he encountered a season-ending knee injury, playing just 23 games in his first year.
After rehabbing and joining the 2025 training camp, he suffered a UCL tear in his right thumb during a workout on Tuesday.
Despite these being uncontrolled scenarios, the Sixers still have to do something to prevent these injuries, especially when acquiring superstars, if they want to earn a championship at the peak of their franchise’s big man.
