Bojan Bogdanovic expected to become Cibona president

Bojan Bogdanovic, who announced his retirement from professional basketball this past summer, is now preparing to take on a very different challenge.

According to journalist Bruno Feliks, the 36-year-old former NBA forward is expected to become the next president of Cibona Zagreb, a historic club he once played for between 2009 and 2011.

The move would mark a full-circle moment for Bogdanovic, returning to the team where he began establishing his name before his rise in Europe and the NBA.

Reports from Vecernji suggest that Bogdanovic is “very close” to accepting the role, with the long-term vision of restoring Cibona to its former glory.

Once one of Europe’s most respected programs and home to countless NBA players, the Zagreb-based club has struggled in recent years.

However, efforts are underway to stabilize its finances and sporting structure, with Bogdanovic seen as the figure to lead that turnaround.

Cibona’s proud history includes back-to-back EuroLeague championships in 1985 and 1986.

Today, the team is pushing for new successes, aiming to qualify for the FIBA Europe Cup while also competing in the ABA 2 League and domestic Croatian competitions.

Bogdanovic’s personal résumé adds credibility to the project. After leaving Cibona in 2011, he spent three years with Fenerbahce before making the jump to the NBA in 2014 with the Brooklyn Nets.

Over the next decade, he suited up for the Wizards, Pacers, Jazz, Pistons, and Knicks, playing in 719 regular-season games and averaging 15.6 points per contest.

With his playing career now behind him, Bogdanovic is reportedly eager to use his experience and connections to help guide Cibona into a more stable and competitive future.
