The Utah Jazz are planning for Kevin Love to participate in training camp, according to Grant Afseth of RG.org.
Earlier this month, reports suggested that the veteran big man might not start the season with Utah, as he explored options to leave the team, including a potential buyout.
Love was acquired from Miami in early July through a three-team trade.
Love carries an expiring contract worth $4.15 million this season, and his on-court role with the rebuilding Jazz would likely be limited.
Historically, some veteran players in similar situations have opted not to report to their new teams.
Afseth notes, however, that the Jazz have not seriously pursued a buyout and are proceeding under the assumption that Love will report to camp as expected.
Last season with Miami, Love appeared in 23 games, averaging 5.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assists – all career lows.
At 37 years old, he still brings value off the court as a mentor for Utah’s young players, providing experience, leadership, and professionalism.
Additionally, his expiring contract could serve as a useful asset for a trade.
Afseth adds that playoff-contending teams are likely keeping an eye on Love’s situation.
If buyout discussions gain momentum, there is a chance he could be waived and become available for other teams.
