Cam Thomas confirmed he will return to the Brooklyn Nets after accepting the team’s one-year qualifying offer worth $6 million. Speaking on Media Day, Thomas emphasized his desire to maintain control over his career.

“I’d rather control my situation. As a player that’s the type of control you want in your situation…Just going to finish the year and we’ll see what happens. But I’m happy to be here to play in front of fans again,” Thomas told Brian Lewis.

Thomas’ choice brings his restricted free agency to a close while preserving key contract protections, including his no-trade clause. Negotiations with the Nets over a long-term deal fell short, despite offers including a two-year, $30 million contract with a team option and a one-year, $9.5 million deal that would have eliminated his no-trade clause.

Thomas decided the qualifying offer best aligned with his career priorities. By taking the one-year route, he ensures the opportunity to reach unrestricted free agency in 2026, potentially commanding a larger contract if he maintains his scoring output.

The Nets will retain Thomas for the upcoming 2025–26 season, giving the team a proven scorer while allowing him to continue developing his role in Brooklyn’s offense.

By accepting the qualifying offer, Thomas positions himself to maximize future opportunities while maintaining flexibility in a market that has offered limited alternatives.
