Jalen Brunson reflected on the New York Knicks’ decision to fire Tom Thibodeau after five seasons.

Speaking on Media Day, Brunson said, “It’s sad to see a man I’ve known for a long time part ways with this organization. He’s meant a lot to me. I’ve expressed that to him publicly and personally. He’s meant a lot to my career.”

The Knicks officially dismissed Thibodeau on June 3. On July 7, New York hired Mike Brown as the franchise’s new head coach.

Brunson’s remarks indicate the strong bond he shared with Thibodeau, who coached him through key stages of his career. The guard has emerged as a central figure in the Knicks’ backcourt, alongside teammates OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges.

Brunson enters the 2025-26 season with a roster featuring Karl-Anthony Towns, Mitchell Robinson, and Jordan Clarkson. The team’s new direction under Brown will rely heavily on Brunson’s playmaking and leadership abilities.
