Desmond Bane’s arrival in Orlando has quickly energized the fan base, with supporters embracing the guard after the Magic’s bold offseason trade, reports Josh Robbins of The Athletic. For Bane, the warm reception has already been impossible to miss.

“I haven’t been to the grocery store yet, honestly,” the player joked. “But my car broke down on the side of the road today on the highway. There was a decent amount of people screaming my name outside the window. So I think that it’s safe to say that Orlando fans are excited.”

The buzz around Bane highlights the expectations that now surround the Magic. With him joining Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Jalen Suggs, Orlando appears positioned to take a leap into Eastern Conference contention this season.

As Robbins notes, the East feels wide open. Cleveland and New York are strong favorites, but injuries to Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton have left the top of the conference more vulnerable. The Magic aim to take advantage of the moment.

“I don’t think that there is any limit to put on what this team can do,” Bane said.

“I mean, we are a new team, adding some new pieces and things like that. But we have a very good roster in place, a lot of guys that can do a lot of different things. So it’s very exciting from that standpoint. I just want to come in and be the glue, the guy that brings this whole thing together, kind of rounds out some of the gaps that they may have had in their team.”

Bane has played five seasons for the Memphis Grizzlies. He has averaged 17.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 313 regular-season games.
