The Boston Celtics are planning to sign free agent wing Kendall Brown, according to sources cited by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
While Scotto did not specify the exact type of contract, it is expected to be an Exhibit 10 deal, giving the 22-year-old an opportunity to compete for a two-way spot during training camp.
Exhibit 10 contracts are non-guaranteed, do not count against the salary cap, and can be converted into two-way deals.
Brown, a former top high school recruit, was selected 48th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft after one season at Baylor.
He spent much of his first two NBA seasons on two-way contracts with the Pacers before being converted to a standard deal in March 2024.
Brown was released by Indiana last fall and did not appear in any NBA games in 2024/25, instead spending the season in the G League.
With the Long Island Nets, he played 37 games, averaging 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.1 steals in 33.9 minutes per contest, shooting .565/.400/.750.
Scotto also confirmed that Jalen Bridges is on track to finalize a camp deal with Boston, vying for another two-way position.
Bridges spent his rookie season on a two-way contract with Phoenix, which did not extend a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Both Brown and Bridges participated with the Celtics during the Las Vegas Summer League.
Boston currently has three two-way spots occupied by rookies Max Shulga, Amari Williams, and RJ Luis Jr. Of the trio, Luis’ roster position appears most vulnerable, as Boston used second-round picks on Williams and Shulga.
In contrast, Luis was acquired via a salary-dump deal with Utah. Brown and Bridges will likely compete for the open or converted spot during training camp.
