France closed out Group D in dominant fashion, crushing Iceland 114-74 on Thursday in Katowice.
Les Bleus built a 32-point halftime lead after a blistering 36-point opening quarter, their best scoring stretch of the tournament. A 12-0 run midway through the first period gave them full control.
Head coach Frederic Fauthoux’s squad never trailed and extended the advantage to 46 points in the final quarter. By the end, eight French players had scored in double figures.
2024 top draft pick Zaccharie Risacher stood out, finishing with 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting and seven rebounds in just over 21 minutes. He went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc and posted a team-high +27.
Guerschon Yabusele added 10 points and four rebounds, while Mouhammadou Jaiteh tallied 13 points on 71 percent shooting. Elie Okobo scored 14 in 16 minutes, hitting both of his three-point attempts.
France shot 57 percent from the field and 39 percent from deep, outrebounding Iceland 48-38. Their 24 assists highlighted the balanced offense that overwhelmed the opposition.
Iceland struggled from the start, managing only nine points in the opening frame. Martin Hermannsson was a bright spot with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while Elvar Fridriksson chipped in 10.
Despite a late push in the fourth quarter, Iceland never recovered from the early deficit. The team finished group play winless at 0-5 and was eliminated from the tournament.
France, meanwhile, secured a 4-1 record and advanced to the knockout stage.
