The dust has settled on the Round of 16 at FIBA EuroBasket 2025, and with it the final classification for the eight teams knocked out at this stage has been officially confirmed.
These teams will leave the Latvian capital knowing their exact placement in the overall standings, ranging from 9th to 16th position.
The rankings were determined according to the Official Basketball Rules, with a clear hierarchy: first by group finish in the opening stage, then by win-loss record, and finally by point differential.
This ensured a fair balance between early-round performance and knockout stage results.
The Quarter-Finals, which take place September 9 and 10 at Arena Riga, will feature the remaining contenders, but the eliminated nations have still left their mark on the tournament.
Classification of teams placed 9–16:
- France – 1st in Group D (4-1), +70
- Serbia – 2nd in Group A (4-1), +66
- Italy – 2nd in Group C (4-1), +63
- Latvia – 3rd in Group A (3-2), +28
- Bosnia and Herzegovina – 3rd in Group C (3-2), 0
- Israel – 4th in Group D (3-2), +16
- Portugal – 4th in Group A (2-3), -53
- Sweden – 4th in Group B (1-4), -15
For teams like France, who topped their group with an impressive +70 point differential, the knockout defeat will sting, as they were widely considered medal contenders.
Serbia and Italy, both finishing strong in their groups, will also be left to wonder what might have been after bowing out earlier than expected.
Meanwhile, co-hosts Latvia managed to secure 12th place with a solid 3-2 group record, giving their fans memorable moments even if the dream run stopped in the Round of 16.
Bosnia and Herzegovina matched that 3-2 record but settled for 13th, while Israel’s spirited fight left them in 14th. Portugal and Sweden round out the list, proud to have reached the Knockout Phase but unable to advance further.
