Neemias Queta is not rushing to embrace the idea of being Boston’s new starting center.

Speaking to Eurohoops, Queta downplayed speculation about his role for the 2025–26 season, stressing that training camp will determine everything.

“Right now, nothing is guaranteed—we’re just ready to go. All the guys have been working their tail off this summer. When training camp comes, Joe (Mazzulla) will make his decision. I’m here to help and contribute,” Queta said, via HoopsHype.

The 26-year-old big man is coming off his most active NBA campaign, playing 62 games for the Celtics and averaging 5.0 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting 65 percent from the field. He also made six starts, filling in when Kristaps Porzingis was sidelined.

Boston relied heavily on its frontcourt depth last season, using different combinations alongside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Queta emphasized that flexibility will remain central to the team’s approach.

“Our team has been versatile for years and still will be,” he said. “We’re all used to playing in different positions, whether starting or guarding multiple spots. It’s a long season—82 games—and you have to be malleable.”

Queta’s rise has mirrored his international breakthrough. He has just led Portugal to its first EuroBasket win in nearly two decades, posting 23 points, 18 rebounds, and four blocks in a victory over Czechia. His performance was historic, as he became the first player in EuroBasket history to record at least 20 points and 15 rebounds in a debut.
