The Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring Trey Murphy III, sources told Jake Fischer on The Stein Line.
New Orleans has resisted trade calls for the 25-year-old forward, valuing him highly after signing him to a four-year, $112 million extension in October 2024.
Murphy missed the start of the 2024–25 season with a right hamstring strain but returned to post career highs, averaging 21.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists over 53 games.
His season ended prematurely on March 17, 2025, due to a torn labrum and partial rotator cuff tear in his right shoulder.
The forward’s contract for 2025–26 is valued at $25 million, adding to his trade appeal for teams seeking versatile wing scoring.
Murphy has steadily improved since entering the league in 2021, showing growth in scoring, playmaking, and three-point shooting, making him a coveted asset for playoff-contending teams.
In the 2023–24 playoffs, he averaged 11.5 points and 6.5 rebounds over four games.
The Warriors have reportedly made outreach to New Orleans as recently as this summer, while the Spurs are also keeping tabs on the two-way forward.
Despite trade interest, the Pelicans have indicated they intend to retain Murphy, citing his integral role in their long-term plans.
