The Philadelphia 76ers remain confident they will reach a new deal with restricted free agent Quentin Grimes, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported on Marc Stein’s The Stein Line.
Sources say the organization views Grimes as a key priority this offseason but is in no rush to finalize an agreement amid ongoing negotiations.
Grimes, 25, is currently eligible for a qualifying offer of $8.7 million but has not ruled out accepting it, which would make him an unrestricted free agent next summer.
The guard has attracted varied market projections, with estimates ranging from $40 million to $75 million over multiple years, according to The Athletic’s Fred Katz.
One Western Conference executive suggested Grimes could command a four-year, $75 million deal due to his versatile two-way play. Another source saw a more conservative three-year, $40 million offer as realistic given the league’s salary cap constraints.
After a midseason trade from Dallas, Grimes averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists over 28 games for Philadelphia last season.
He proved valuable as a perimeter defender and secondary playmaker under head coach Nick Nurse, shooting 37% from three-point range.
Team president Daryl Morey described Grimes’ contract situation as “the last piece of business” this summer but has not commented on negotiation specifics.
The 76ers’ tight proximity to the luxury tax apron has slowed offseason activity, even as they added players like Trendon Watford and Jabari Walker.
Grimes’ case mirrors other restricted free agents like Josh Giddey and Jonathan Kuminga, who also remain unsigned amid the current cap environment.
Both sides appear motivated to reach a deal, but the final outcome may depend heavily on financial terms.
Philadelphia’s front office believes a mutually beneficial agreement will be hashed out before training camp begins.
