Veteran center Khem Birch is close to signing a contract extension with EuroLeague champions Fenerbahce Istanbul, according to Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews. The deal is expected to secure him for at least the upcoming season, though it’s not yet clear if it includes additional years.

Birch was named MVP of the Turkish League Finals after averaging 11.2 points and 5.2 rebounds, and he contributed 3.6 points and 3.5 rebounds in limited minutes during EuroLeague play. BasketNews also recognized him as one of the league’s top defenders.

After beginning his career with Olympiacos in Greece, Birch spent six seasons in the NBA with the Magic and Raptors before returning to Europe for the 2023/24 season.

He’s part of a Fenerbahce squad filled with former NBA players – such as Nicolo Melli, Onuralp Bitim, Bonzie Colson, Devon Hall, and Wade Baldwin IV – as the team prepares to defend both its Turkish and EuroLeague titles.
