Ayo Dosunmu is likely to remain with the Chicago Bulls for the 2024–25 season, according to NBC Sports Chicago insider K.C. Johnson.
Trade discussions involving the 25-year-old guard have reportedly cooled in recent weeks after gaining traction earlier this offseason.
Johnson, who previously noted an uptick in chatter around Dosunmu’s future, now says those conversations have “largely died down” as of late July.
The Bulls held “substantive talks” with a Western Conference playoff team, but the two sides failed to reach agreement on a deal.
Dosunmu is entering the final year of a three-year, $21 million contract signed in 2023 and will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
He averaged 12.3 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds over 46 games this past season while shooting 48.9% from the floor.
Concerns about the Bulls’ cap situation have fueled speculation that the front office would have to choose between keeping Dosunmu or Coby White, who also hits free agency in 2025.
White had a career-best season, averaging 20.4 points and 4.5 assists in 74 starts, and is currently playing on a three-year, $36 million deal.
Johnson previously told the Chicago Lead podcast that the team may be forced to move one of the two guards to avoid losing both for nothing next summer.
Despite the financial pressure, Chicago appears to be holding firm on its valuation of Dosunmu and isn’t eager to move him unless the return meets their asking price.
The Bulls closed last season with a 39–43 record, finishing ninth in the Eastern Conference before being eliminated in the play-in tournament by the Miami Heat.
