The Minnesota Timberwolves have secured one of their top offseason priorities, with ESPN’s Shams Charania reporting Tuesday that free agent guard Ayo Dosunmu intends to sign a five-year, $112 million contract to remain in Minnesota.

The agreement includes a player option in the fifth season and comes shortly after the Timberwolves created additional financial flexibility through a significant three-team trade.

According to Charania, Minnesota traded Julius Randle and the No. 28 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft to the Brooklyn Nets as part of a deal that sent Nic Claxton to the Chicago Bulls. The Timberwolves received the No. 33 pick from Brooklyn while shedding the remaining two years on Randle’s contract, a move that Charania reported was designed in part to help the franchise retain Dosunmu and maintain access to roster-building exceptions.

The sequence of moves highlights how highly Minnesota valued Dosunmu after his impact following a February trade from the Chicago Bulls. Charania reported that re-signing the 26-year-old became a major organizational priority after his strong postseason performance and growing chemistry with franchise star Anthony Edwards.

Dosunmu’s production justified that commitment. After arriving in Minnesota at the trade deadline, he averaged 14.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists across 24 regular-season games while shooting 52.1% from the field and 41.4% from three-point range. His efficiency and defensive versatility helped stabilize Minnesota’s backcourt during the stretch run.

His value increased further during the playoffs. Dosunmu averaged 15.6 points, 4.1 assists and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 50.0% from the field and 42.5% from beyond the arc. Minnesota finished the regular season 49-33, good for sixth place in the Western Conference, before advancing to the conference semifinals, where the Timberwolves pushed the eventual Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs before falling in six games.

The reported contract reflects both Dosunmu’s age and continued development. Originally selected by Chicago in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft, he spent four seasons with the Bulls before being moved to Minnesota. During his tenure in Chicago, he averaged 9.6 points, 3.5 assists and 2.7 rebounds while establishing himself as a reliable two-way guard.
