Last season, injuries limited the Dallas Mavericks’ ability to experiment with dual-big-man lineups, something the coaching staff had hoped to explore more thoroughly.

But with a healthier roster heading into the 2025 season, Dallas is preparing to fully embrace its size advantage in pursuit of a deeper playoff push, according to The Athletic’s Christian Clark.

Clark points out that Anthony Davis saw just 95 minutes on the floor alongside either Dereck Lively II or Daniel Gafford last year – a small sample size that prevented the team from truly assessing the potential of those combinations.

Moving forward, Davis is expected to spend the majority of his minutes at the power forward position, creating more opportunities to pair him with a true center.

Mavericks assistant coach Josh Broghame emphasized that this approach could be a game-changer for the team.

“That’s something we have a huge advantage [with] going forward: our size,” Broghame said. “The talent with that size, that’s something we put on a premium here, and it’s been really, really good for us so far.”

With a frontcourt featuring athleticism, length, and now health, Dallas appears ready to shift toward a more physically imposing identity – one that could give opponents serious problems on both ends of the floor.
