Although betting odds currently list the Detroit Pistons as the frontrunners to acquire Cam Thomas should he leave the Brooklyn Nets, Omari Sankofa II of The Detroit Free Press takes a closer look at the potential fit – and remains unconvinced.

While the idea has sparked speculation, Sankofa points out that Thomas may not be the most logical addition to Detroit’s current roster, which already includes high-usage, ball-dominant guards like Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey.

Given the redundancy in skill sets and Detroit’s roster construction, Thomas likely “doesn’t check enough boxes to justify the expense,” according to Sankofa.

Echoing that sentiment, Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report also recently evaluated Detroit’s interest in Thomas during a segment on YouTube and reported that there’s little to no traction between the two sides.

Despite the odds, it appears that the Pistons are not actively pursuing the restricted free agent guard at this time
