Former Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey is a candidate to return to the franchise in a new role.
According to Sportsnet’s Michael Grange, Casey has met with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment president Keith Pelley as part of the organization’s ongoing search for a new team president.
Casey, who coached the Raptors from 2011 to 2018 and remains the franchise’s all-time wins leader, is currently an executive with the Detroit Pistons.
He stepped down from coaching in Detroit in 2023 after five seasons and transitioned into a front office advisory role.
Toronto’s president role became vacant after the organization and Masai Ujiri mutually parted ways on June 27, ending Ujiri’s 12-year tenure that included the team’s 2019 championship.
Casey isn’t the only high-profile name linked to the job.
Grange also reported that Monte McNair, the 2022–23 NBA Executive of the Year, has been in contact with Pelley. McNair led a turnaround in Sacramento before being dismissed by the Kings earlier this year.
While external candidates are being evaluated, Raptors general manager Bobby Webster is widely seen as the internal favorite.
League insiders have described the position as “Bobby’s to lose,” noting Webster’s strong reputation within both the MLSE and the broader NBA community.
If Webster is promoted, it could shape how the Raptors build out the rest of their front office, with other candidates potentially joining in support roles.
One league insider suggested to Grange that Pritchard may be MLSE’s preferred candidate, but his current role with Indiana could complicate any potential move.
Lateral transitions between front offices often require organizational approval unless a promotion is involved.
The search is being handled by CAA Executive Search and has included outreach to multiple league executives.
