The Portland Trail Blazers may soon be on the market—and the price tag could top $4 billion.

On a recent episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast, Simmons stated, via HoopsHype, “I heard there’s a guy, and I heard it’s going to go over four [billion]—are the only two things I’ve heard.”

Simmons’ comments follow increasing whispers around the NBA that the franchise is in the early stages of a potential sale, despite no formal announcement from ownership.

Internally, even individuals within the Blazers organization are reportedly uncertain about the status of a sale.

“People within the Blazers that I talked to are like: ‘We haven’t heard anything,’” Zach Lowe said.

The Trail Blazers have been under the ownership of the Paul G. Allen Trust since Allen’s passing in 2018.

Though there has long been speculation that the trust intends to sell the team, a timeline has never been publicly confirmed.

Despite finishing the 2024–25 season with a 22–60 record and missing the playoffs for a fourth consecutive year, the franchise remains a valuable asset.

With few NBA teams currently available, demand could push the price well beyond the initial $3.5 billion estimates circulating among league insiders.

Simmons’ sources suggest a final sale figure could clear the $4 billion threshold, which would place the deal among the most expensive in league history.

The limited availability of franchises, strong market growth, and rising NBA media revenues are contributing factors to inflated valuations.
