Stephen Curry has accomplished nearly everything in his 16-year NBA career, but the Golden State Warriors star is still eyeing another milestone — a spot in the league’s all-time top 10 in scoring.
In a recent interview with Complex’s Speedy Mormon, Curry acknowledged he keeps track of how close he is to climbing the list. “I do the math every once in a while,” he said when asked about the all-time ranks, via NBC Sports Bay Area.
Currently sitting at No. 27 with 25,386 career points, Curry is within striking distance of legends like Vince Carter, Paul Pierce, and Tim Duncan. He needs less than 4,200 points to surpass Moses Malone (29,580) for 10th all-time.
At his current scoring pace — 24.5 points per game in the 2024–25 season — Curry would need about two more full seasons to break into the top 10. He told Complex that while the chase isn’t his primary motivation, it’s something he thinks about “just for a hot second” before refocusing on team goals.
“If I average 20-something, two and a half seasons, I’m playing 70 games, I do that math all the time,” Curry said. “But that’s not why I’ll keep going. It’s more that I want to get to a level where we’re competing and playing for championships.”
The 37-year-old guard continues to defy age expectations. In his 16th season, Curry remained one of the most efficient scorers in the league, shooting 39.7% from three and 93.3% from the free-throw line this year.
His remarkable consistency and health — he played 70 games this past season — have allowed him to inch closer to historic names each year. He recently passed Rick Barry and DeMar DeRozan, and Julius Erving, currently in ninth with 30,026 points, is now within reach if Curry maintains his production through the 2026–27 season.
Still, Curry emphasized that championships, not scoring lists, are his ultimate goal. The Warriors, who missed the playoffs last season, are retooling their roster in hopes of making another run while Curry is still playing at an elite level.
