NBA insider Jake Fischer shared key insights on Kevin Love’s possible signing with the Los Angeles Lakers during his latest Bleacher Report livestream on July 24. Fischer detailed the slow-moving offseason market and highlighted the factors affecting Love’s next steps.
Love’s buyout with the Utah Jazz remains unresolved, Fischer explained, largely because buyouts typically finalize only once a player has a clear next destination. This cautious approach ensures players do not give up guaranteed money without a secure landing spot.
Fischer noted that Love prefers landing in major markets like Los Angeles or New York. The Lakers, fresh off signing Marcus Smart and other key pieces, represent a top destination in this regard. According to Fischer, there has been speculation among fans and insiders about Love joining the Lakers, although no official updates have emerged.
The analyst emphasized that many buyouts this summer followed a similar pattern—players waited until their next team was confirmed before completing the process. Fischer cited the cases of Bradley Beal and Deandre Ayton as recent examples.
While Love’s decision is pending, Fischer suggested his fit with the Lakers would make sense given the team’s current backcourt needs and veteran presence. The Lakers, still rounding out their rotation behind LeBron James and Luka Doncic, would benefit from Love’s experience and shooting ability.
Though Love’s move is not yet official, Fischer’s comments underline the likelihood that the former Cavaliers star is targeting a high-profile landing spot. The Lakers remain among the most logical fits, pending resolution of Love’s buyout with Utah.
