The Phoenix Suns have claimed guard Jordan Goodwin off waivers following his release by the Los Angeles Lakers, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.

The move gives Phoenix a defensive-minded guard with size and versatility as the franchise reshapes its depth ahead of the 2025–26 season.

Goodwin, 26, appeared in 29 regular-season games and four playoff outings for Los Angeles last year. He averaged 5.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while shooting 38.2% from three-point range.

His energy and toughness on the defensive end earned him rotation minutes under Lakers head coach JJ Redick after signing a two-way deal on February 7.

The Lakers waived Goodwin earlier this week to create salary cap room for Marcus Smart, who agreed to a two-year, $11 million deal with the team.

For Phoenix, Goodwin offers immediate depth in a backcourt that has been reliant on heavy minutes from its top guards in recent seasons.

His 6-foot-3 frame, rebounding ability, and perimeter defense are expected to complement the Suns’ bench unit, especially in matchups that require physicality at the point of attack.

Originally undrafted out of Saint Louis in 2021, Goodwin has built a reputation as a scrappy, high-motor player. His path has included stops with Washington, Los Angeles, and the G League.
