Phoenix Suns are not engaging in trade discussions involving Ja Morant, according to a firm public response from a local media voice following league speculation linking the guard to Arizona.

On Thursday, June 11, John Gambadoro dismissed the idea of a Suns-Morant scenario after a Bleacher Report trade suggestion circulated. “Ridiculous. Take the Suns off the list. Not happening,” he wrote, directly shutting down the possibility.

That response effectively removed Phoenix from a trade rumor that had already begun to circulate around one of the league’s most volatile but talented point guards. Morant remains the centerpiece of Memphis’ roster, but the Grizzlies’ season and recent franchise reshaping have only added to speculation about how long that remains true.

Morant, 26, averaged 19.5 points and 8.1 assists in 20 games during the 2025-26 season, shooting 41.0 percent from the field and 89.7 percent from the free-throw line. The scoring efficiency was uneven, especially from three-point range, where he shot 23.5 percent, but his playmaking still made him the engine of Memphis’ offense whenever he was available.

The Grizzlies finished 25-57 and missed the postseason, and their roster already looks different after the February 3 trade that sent Jaren Jackson Jr. to Utah. That kind of shake-up usually invites more rumor traffic around a franchise star, especially one with Morant’s résumé and contract value.

Phoenix, though, is clearly not treating him as a fit.

The Suns already have a ball-dominant structure built around Devin Booker, who led the team at 26.1 points and 6.0 assists per game in 64 appearances. Dillon Brooks posted 20.2 points and 1.8 assists, and Jalen Green added 17.8 points in 32 games after joining the roster. That usage mix leaves little obvious room for another high-usage lead guard.

The Suns also finished 43-39 and landed in the play-in picture in the Western Conference, where they were trying to stabilize a roster that already features a crowded scoring hierarchy.
