In a comprehensive interview with Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer, Charlotte Hornets head coach Charles Lee discussed several key topics, including the team’s offseason roster upgrades, his confidence in the frontcourt lineup, and his expectations for LaMelo Ball’s continued development as a team leader next season.
When asked about the addition of veteran guard Collin Sexton, Lee highlighted Sexton’s defining characteristics, praising his “fearlessness” and “competitiveness” as qualities that immediately stood out.
Lee also lightheartedly noted that now that Sexton is part of the Hornets, the dynamic between them has shifted, joking about how he expects Sexton to treat him differently during games.
“From afar, he was very competitive,” Lee remarked. “At times, he would stare me down during games when I was coaching against him or scouting. He’s always looking for some fuel to fire him up.
“So, when he first got here, I made sure to remind them – ‘Don’t be looking at me crazy like that anymore, or your minutes might suffer now.’ But it’s great. I’m really glad to have him on our side.”
Lee went on to express his appreciation for what Sexton has already contributed to the team culture. “I truly value so much of what he’s bringing to our group,” he said.
“Watching him work out with Melo and engage in conversations with him is really important for our collective growth. Sexton is going to be a big part of that, both through his relentless work ethic and his intense competitiveness.”
