The Los Angeles Lakers made a major move in free agency on Wednesday, agreeing to contracts with Sandro Mamukelashvili, Quentin Grimes and Collin Sexton, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The additions reshape the roster around Luka Doncic after the departures of LeBron James, Luke Kennard and Marcus Smart.
Mamukelashvili agreed to a four-year, $52 million contract with a player option in the fourth season. The 27-year-old forward/center is coming off a breakout 2025-26 season with the Toronto Raptors, where he averaged 11.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 80 games while shooting 52.3% from the field and 38.9% from three-point range.
The deal represents a significant investment in a frontcourt player who has developed into a versatile offensive big. Mamukelashvili posted a 61.4% effective field goal percentage last season and ranked among the top reserve big men in the league, finishing 10th in Sixth Man of the Year voting.
Los Angeles also added Grimes on a four-year, $60 million contract with a player option. The 26-year-old guard gives the Lakers another two-way wing option after averaging 13.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists for the Philadelphia 76ers in 2025-26.
Grimes has built his reputation around perimeter shooting and defensive versatility. Over his career, he has shot 36.6% from three on 5.1 attempts per game, while his 2024-25 season included a stretch with Philadelphia where he averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 25 games.
Sexton agreed to a two-year, $19 million deal, adding another proven scorer to the Lakers’ backcourt. The guard averaged 15.4 points and 3.3 assists in 68 games last season, shooting 48.5% from the field and 40.1% from three.
Sexton’s ability to create offense gives Los Angeles another ball-handler alongside Doncic. He averaged 18.3 points, 3.6 assists and shot 38.9% from deep across eight NBA seasons, including a career-high 24.3 points per game with Cleveland in 2020-21.
The Lakers entered the offseason after finishing fourth in the Western Conference at 53-29. Doncic led the team with 33.5 points, 7.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game, while Austin Reaves averaged 23.3 points and 5.5 assists.
